롯데그룹(회장 신동빈)이 최근 대형 산불로 피해를 입은 하와이에 피해 복구를 위한 성금 10만 달러를 기부한다고 17일 밝혔다. 우리 돈으로 환산하면 약 1억3천만 원 규모다.

이번 성금은 하와이 자선단체(Friends of Hawaii)를 통해 피해 복구 및 이재민 긴급 지원 활동에 활용될 예정이다.

하와이는 지난 8일 하와이주 마우이섬에서 잇따라 발생한 대형 산불로 100명이 넘는 사망자가 발생하고 건물 2200채가 파괴되는 등 막대한 피해를 입었다.

롯데그룹은 2012년부터 하와이에서 개최되는 유일한 미국여자프로골프(LPGA) 투어인 '롯데챔피언십'으로 오랜 인연을 이어오고 있다.

앞서 하와이 내 기초 생활 지원이 필요한 계층을 돕기 위해 총 33만 달러(약 4억3천만 원)을 기부했다.
