경남소방본부(본부장 김종근) 119특수대응단장과 119항공대 요원들이 2일 지리산 소방관 위령비를 참배, 소방헬기 안전운항을 다짐했다. 

지리산 소방관 위령비가 세워져 있는 시천면 중산리 계곡 현장은 지난 1996년 8월 9일 조난 등산객 대학생 2명을 구조한 소방헬기(백로 1호)가 악천후로 추락한 곳이다.

당시 헬기 조종사 김유복 대원을 비롯해 총 7명이 목숨을 잃었다. 이들 순직 대원들은 대전 현충원에 안장됐다.

박길상 119특수대응단장은 "국민을 위해 헌신한 순직대원들의 숭고한 정신을 이어나갈 수 있도록 노력하겠다"며 "도민의 부름이 있는 곳은 어느 곳이든지 간다는 사명의식을 새기며 안전 운항 관리에도 철저를 기하겠다"고 다짐했다.
