고3 남학생 10명 중 3명이 숨진 참변이 발생한 강원 강릉 펜션 보일러 배관이 연통과 제대로 연결되지 않은 것으로 확인됐다.
경찰은 현장을 감식하는 과정에서 1.5ｍ 높이 가스 보일러와 배기구를 연결하는 연통이 제대로 연결되지 않은 상태였다고 18일 밝혔다.
▲ 18일 오후 강원 강릉시의 한 펜션에서 고교생 10명이 단체 숙박 중 3명이 사망하고 7명이 의식불명되는 사고가 발생해 소방대원들이 구조활동을 펼치고 있다. [강원도소방본부 제공] 경찰은 "가스보일러 배관과 배기구를 연결하는 연통이 서로 어긋나 있는 상태였다"며 "배기가스가 외부로 배출되지 않아 사고로 이어졌을 가능성에 무게를 두고 있다"고 전했다.
경찰은 강릉시 펜션에서 고등학생 3명이 숨지고 7명이 의식불명 상태로 발견된 사고와 관련, 수사본부를 꾸려 진상 확인에 나섰다.
사고 직후 펜션 내부에서 측정된 일산화탄소 농도는 155ppm으로, 정상 수치의 8배 가까운 것으로 조사됐다. 병원에서 측정한 학생들의 체내 일산화탄소 농도는 25∼45%였다. 정상은 3% 미만이며 흡연 시 5% 정도로, 흡연 때보다도 5∼9배 가량 높게 측정됐다.
