26일 낮 12시 25분경 제주 서귀포시 안덕면 사계리 사계항에 정박하고 있던 97톤급 관광용 잠수함 내부에서 폭발 사고가 일어났다.

소방당국 따르면 이 사고로 잠수함 내부에 있던 8명 중 51살 김모 씨가 크게 다치는 등 2명이  중경상을 입었다. 부상자들은 병원으로 옮겨져 치료를 받고 있다.

소방당국은 내부 의자를 고정하다 배터리가 폭발한 것으로 보고 경찰과 함께 정확한 사고 경위를 조사하고 있다.

사고가 난 잠수함은 1993년 미국에서 만들어진 선박으로 2013년 12월 취항했으며 전장 길이는 22.2m, 53명을 태울 수 있는 것으로 알려졌다.
